07/03/2010
Alicante airport, El Altet, is undergoing a modernisation program with a new terminal now expected to be open at the beginning of next year.
The new 333,500 square metre terminal will be eight stories high and host 26 boarding gates, and will allow the annual capacity of the airport to be increased from 12.2 to 20 million users. There will be 14 baggage reclaim belts and as many as 96 check-in desks. The new terminal will in fact become the new airport for the city.
Minister for Development, José Blanco, made a visit to the work site recently to see the improvements for himself, and describing them as a priority.
‘We are in a phase of stimulating development in Spain and tourism is very important for this development’, he said, describing Alicante airport as an important motor for the development of tourism and the economy of the Valencia region and Spain.
